Bellingham Needs to Eliminate the Immature behavior to Secure a Star Position With Tuchel.

Should Bellingham aims to force his way into England’s strongest team, he would be wise to eliminate the dramatics. His response when he saw that the substitute board was going up after an evening of inconsistency in Tirana was unacceptable.

"I’d rather not make more out of it but I stand by my words 'conduct is crucial' and respect towards the teammates who substitute on," Tuchel said. "Choices are taken and you have to accept it when you're on the field."

Bellingham has to learn. There was no need for a strop. Harry Kane had just put the national team 2-0 up in a dead rubber qualifier, with only six minutes remaining and the player, following an inconsistent display, was just shown a yellow for fouling Armando Broja. This was hardly a questionable change. Actually it would have been unwise for Tuchel to leave Bellingham on considering it was possible he would make himself ineligible of the initial fixture of the competition by receiving a another booking.

Shifting Focus on Himself

But Bellingham drew all eyes toward himself. There was no disguising the young midfielder's disappointment as he realized that his replacement was ready for another player. His arms went up in exasperation and while he shook Tuchel’s hand while heading to the touchline it was obvious that the head coach did not appreciate it.

Here lies the test for Bellingham. He praised Marcus Rashford for providing the assist for the captain to score his second of the night, but everything else was counterproductive. It's not like arguing was going to reverse the substitution. The German has repeatedly emphasized honoring the team structure and the value of showing proper conduct.

In the Spotlight

Bellingham, omitted from the previous squad, has faced close inspection since coming back to the squad recently. Essentially his place has been in question and he has not done himself any favours with his response to being taken off as England rounded off a flawless qualification run by overcoming a spirited effort from the Albanian team.

Tactics and Formation

This implies opinions are divided on whether England perform optimally with Bellingham in the team. What we saw was open to interpretation. There was experimentation from Tuchel at the start. He has provided the squad a clear system lately, using a holding player, a box-to-box player, an attacking midfielder and out-and-out wingers, but it felt different against Albania. Jarell Quansah was made his England debut, Wharton made his first start at this level and the role of Stones as a makeshift midfielder created a faint echo to City's 2023 treble winners.

A Game of Two Halves

Bellingham was a mixed bag. He created an opportunity for Eberechi Eze after the break but at times seemed trying too hard. Several rushed, misplaced passes. A pointless clash with an Albania midfielder in the early stages. England's play was messy during most of the second period. An opportunity for Albania resulted from Bellingham squandered possession. The yellow card was shown after an opponent took the ball from Broja and fouled the former Chelsea striker.

Depth Makes the Difference

In the end the squad's strength was decisive. Tuchel introduced Phil Foden, who appeared more naturally fitted to the role that Bellingham had played in the opening period, and the Arsenal winger. Eventually Saka delivered a set-piece for the captain to score the first goal. It was a reminder that dead-ball situations will play a key role next summer.

Connection Remains

Still, though, Bellingham was the story. The quality of Rashford’s assist for the second goal was somewhat overlooked due to the fuss of the Rogers substitution. At the end, all eyes were on Bellingham. Tuchel walked up from behind and guided the Real Madrid midfielder to acknowledge the away supporters. Their connection is not broken. The coach isn't ready to give up on him at this stage. However, whether Tuchel is inclined to offer him centre stage is still uncertain.
